South East Regional Championships 2021

Congratulations to all the Women’s Artistic gymnasts that competed at the South East Regional Championships. This was the girls first competition in over 18 months and they managed to perform extremely well.

The weekend began with the Copper level gymnasts. Individually Miranda finished 11th, Holly 9th and Bella 5th overall. They also managed to place 3rd as a team at this level.

The next round saw the F.I.G gymnasts competing. There was some great quality work shown with many new skills competed for the first time successfully. Tabby placed 3rd and Brooke 2nd overall at this level. They also both collected a bronze medal for vault and Brooke collected a bronze medal for bars. Both girls competed a double back on floor as well as a release and catch (Jaeger) on the bars for the first time as well as new connections on beam.

Day 2 saw the Bronze level gymnasts compete. The girls competed in 2 age categories for overall placings but also as one age category for National Finals team positions. In the 09-11 age category Zara placed =8th and Lucy 3rdoverall. Zara also collected a 4th place finish on floor. In the 04-08 age category Izzy finished 10th, Cissy 8th, Morgan 4th with Phoebe becoming the South East Regional Bronze Level Champion. Cissy also collected a silver medal for floor with Phoebe collecting the beam title. The team also took 2nd place at this level. Phoebe and Morgan will now represent the South East at National Finals in Guildford in November with Lucy as the team reserve.

Round 3 was the turn of the Compulsory 2 gymnasts. This competition was preparation for their National level grade held in Stoke in 2 weeks’ time where they have the possibility to qualify to the British Championships in November. All the girls had a steady competition and achieved the Nationally set pass score that they would need at the next competition to gain qualification. In an open aged category Isla (the youngest age category competitor) placed 13thoverall with Bella taking 3rd overall and Georgia being crowned South East Compulsory 2 Champion. The girls also took the Level 2 team title.

This was an extremely successful competition across all levels and we would all like to say a huge well done to all the gymnasts and coaches involved.
